Toby Wise is in Oregon, sorting out the complicated finances of Connor Corp. and fending off the FBI investigation of Laran Radcliffe's former money laundering. Toby suspects Piet Connor's nursing attendant, Laura Fox of being undercover FBI—a matter complicated by Toby's attraction to her. A fight with a vicious chupacabra, the appearance of another rogue vampire, and the discovery that Laura is NOT working for the FBI, so complicate their developing relationship, that the question of her mortality seems minor by comparison.
