Heather Whyte ( known briefly as Jane Johnson)

Born in Chicago, Illinois in September 1997. Only child of Adela Whyte and Simon Warrant. Heather's parents never married and her father abandoned her and Adela when Heather was six months old. From a very early age, Heather showed talent for drawing and design and Adela nurtured this as best she could with limited finances. Heather had little interest in magic, and in fact growing up found her mother's reputation as a witch, an embarrassment.

When Heather was thirteen, her mother married Piet Connor and they moved to Oregon. Initially Heather was prepared to dislike Elizabeth, imagining her a spoiled rich kid but the two girls like each other on sight and formed a strong bond that outlasted their parents' marriage.

Heather joined Elizabeth at Whorfield where distinguished herself by modest academic achievements and her acclaimed drawing and painting. Her art teacher at Whorfield introduced her to pottery and before she left school, she decided to become a potter.

At her mother's insistence she attended college with Elizabeth. Heather majored in Education and took a job in Chicago while maintaining a pottery studio in her spare time.

It was in Heather's rented house in Chicago, in September 2005, that she and Elizabeth were attacked by Laran Radcliffe.

Elizabeth Connor (known briefly Angela Ryan)

Born in Florence, Oregon in May 1979. Only child of Piet Connor and his first wife, Sara Cox. In January 1985 Sara Cox Connor died from complications after surgery. In August 1986, Piet Connor married Marrianne Carlson and Elizabeth was sent to Whorfield Academy in Eugene as a boarder she was an outstanding student and several times school tennis champion.

In the spring of 1991, after her father’s divorce and subsequent marriage to Adela Whyte. Elizabeth acquired a sister: Heather Whyte was three months younger than Elizabeth, and joined her at Whorfield, but at Adela’s insistence, both girls were weekly boarders.

Adela was a skilled and practicing witch and observing Elizabeth’s untrained magical abilities encouraged her to develop and hone her skills.

Elizabeth’s close friendship with Heather survived their parents’ divorce in 1996. They attended college together and kept in close contact after graduation.

Whilst Elizabeth was visiting Heather (then a schoolteacher in Chicago) in September 2005, they were both attacked by Laran Radcliffe, mind raped and abandoned.

The Underwood Witches

In 1935, General Horace Underwood retired from the Indian Army and settled in Bringham with his three daughters. He spent his retirement studying magic and alchemy and amassing a considerable library devoted to the occult, magic and witchcraft. Assisted by his two elder daughters, (Charity still being at boarding school) the General reestablished an ancient coven in the village.

On the General's death in 1948, his two elder daughters, who never married, took over the leadership of the coven, and until their deaths took a intense and profitable interest in village affairs.
